Horrifying Mini-Figurines by Jessica Harrison
Artist Jessica Harrison’s work deals with “the body in space, the space within the body and the space in-between the two.”“My work is based on physiological, philosophical and psychoanalytical research into the body and its senses, focusing in particular on the role of touch in our experience of objects and in the construction of knowledge; how consciousness and perception are choreographed by the senses and spatial form. This is about a perception beginning with the skin rather then the eye, a perception based on the tactile rather than optical space. Through making and sharing these objects, I am hoping to provoke questions in the observer about how their body fits in to the space around it, how space adapts and changes due to our bodies, how things are filtered and communicated through touch.”

I can’t deny the artistic value of these Images but i can’t grasp the meaning of this pulp “art”…
Non the less , since I’m not a connesseur , leave to experts to express their opinion…

Very interesting and extremely well executed figurines. The technical proficiency is excellent. I do call BS on the artist statement – these are depictions of a horror done in a new and unique way and I wonder at the sanity of the mind that created them. The artist statement seems to me that it is a high minded excuse to shock while pretending to have an artistic and psychological message to send. While I admired the skill of the artist, the stated goal totally escaped me.

Yes! The work is remarkably done! That’s right!
Many artists do that!
Of course it is provocation. But at the same time, they are fascinated by anatomy.
You must not have seen it often; There are many talented artists who use the flesh, skeleton and organs to cause, also by the morbid taste …
to discover.
This is still visually shocking to some. The composition of the organic and skeletal human body is considered as frightening, whereas it is all our nature. And here is the paradox.
Regarding their mental health, I do not have the same opinion; on the contrary.
These people free their urges; There is therefore no repression.
In this case, there is no imbalance that they suffer.

Thank you.
